Vintage Jewelry Update: Animal Magnetism, Bug jewelry, wolves, puma earrings and more

Posted on 10:58 AM by ergeg
1920s-30s glass bugs, coming soon to both shops.
With Sarara Vintage etsy and now the new vintage jewelry site, our inventory is constantly being updated. The focus of the new website is to create the best selection of authentic vintage fashion jewelry online! The vintage jewelry collection includes estate pieces, antiques, couture, art deco, designer runway jewelry.  For me I wear jewelry to add a touch of personality, so the jewelry has to command attention and be fashion savvy for the modern gal.  I like to think about the customer, who is she, a collector or wearer or both?

The Sarara dame owns vintage because she likes to think a bit about her style. She is a trend setter. Vintage reminds her who she is and what she loves. She enjoys fashion history and making an entrance, she's no wall flower. It’s important for her to add individuality to her wardrobe and fuel her passion for life.
I hope that the store's inventory makes you smile and think about how you can enjoy your own style and wardrobe using vintage!  While we carry clothing on both etsy and the sararacouture site, it has to be special or relevant. After all, "clothing is just an accessory".  Jewelry rocks, it is fun, and should be a way let your creativity flow. You can take a piece off or add it at any moment. So enjoy our whimsical counterparts featured below. They're a selection with of a bit of animal/insect magnitism:
1970s Large Enamel Egyptian Revival Necklace.

Donald Stannard, Wolf Torque Necklace.

Ciner puma earrings, circa 1970s.
Vendome glass scarab pin.

60s-70s Cadoro birds.

Razza Lion Necklace.

Victorian carved horn bracelet.

20s Sterling Scarab ring.

Vintage Malcolm Starr, designed by Youssef Rizkallah Circus skirt.

Shop update: Beach, Sand, Driftwood, and Vintage William De Lillo

Posted on 7:30 PM by ergeg
60s glass and metal William DeLillo necklace, coming soon. Sarara Vintage image.
I took a much needed week break, at the beach, over the 4th of July holiday staying at my favorite North American island spot for quiet, ecological fulfillment, biking, and relaxing on a southern porch.  The Georgia Isles boast quite an ecology between Jekyll and Cumberland Island. Not to mention St. Simons, which is a great port in the night.  I also went hunting for historical fashions as well as jewelry and will be posting some in the shop soon. They will be part of a overall shop update. On one of my trips to the scenic driftwood beach, I photographed a couple of designer runway size pieces, one by my favorite-William De Lillo and another by Accessocraft.

The sun bleached and wind swept wood was the perfect backdrop. Enjoy the images, you can find more of the 20s resort and area scenery on my instagram account: sararavintagecouture. I will add them to Sarara Vintage Couture's look book soon.  This is a sneak peek!

If Marie Antoinette Wore Chanel: The 2013 Resort Collection

Posted on 1:28 PM by ergeg

Met Museum Image. Robe à la française, ca. 1765

The Chanel Resort 2013 collection is sort of a fusion of the pop cultural elements associated with Marie Antoinette the icon (think the pastel wigs), 18th century design and a splash of -"If Marie were alive today how would she wear Chanel?". The model's gave off a sort of punk aristocratic vibe in their tennis shoes and pink hair. The show had no shortage of the theatrical and decadence! Marie herself would have been proud. The runway was indeed the palace Versailles and the backdrop the Louis XIV garden and fountain no less.  Karl looked like he was right at home. Karl is no novice when it comes to this era's designs! Let's face it his high crisp white collar and array of ties are a modern  chic take on the 1700's man's attire seen below.  Not to mention the fan we sometimes see him accessorize with!

Met Museum of Art Image.
As a lover of vintage fashion and history, I enjoyed his take on 18th century silhouettes and attention to detail.  There are a couple gowns, I think are particularly interesting and a jacket with  embellishment fit for a queen, see images below.

There are also some of the traditional Chanel nubby textiles reworked into great jackets. The embroidered bodices on the dresses are particularly indicative of the period, although again he has cleaned them up and minimized their overpowering aesthetic. The attention to detail most likely indicates that, although he did an amazing non boring take on the 18th century, he studied the embroidery.  Two books to examine for inspiration are: 18th Century Embroidery Techniques by Gale Marsh and Seventeenth and Eighteenth Century Fashion in Detail by Avril Hart and Susan North.

The Chanel Fashion show is not the first time Versailles has hosted a fashion icon. The exhibit held on July-October of 2008, housed throughout the palace called XVIII Century Back in Fashion Lagerfeld, McQueen, Westwood, Lacroix among other icons that were inspired by the era.  Also on display were some of the clothing of Marie Antoinette and a dress from Sofia Coppola's film. Maybe this experience and the her shoes inspired Karl Lagerfeld to take on Marie and the 18th century. One thing is for sure 18th century vintage and fashions inspired by the era are hot. Check out Dior's Fashion Film Secret Garden filmed inside Versailles.
