I mentioned that not only is Native American and Indigenous design in style for this season it is based on traditions and designs which are thousands of years old. As promised I wanted to list a few starting with the Manitobah moccasin company. This is a Canadian company. They have some great baby booties and mocs for us! http://www.manitobah.ca/ourspirit.php. Right now I am in love with the grey ones and the almost knee high buckskin boots! Instead of Uggs this season-- same old same old or for those that hate uggs here come the manitobahs!!! This company was created by Metis siblings out of a trading post. They work with and support aboriginal artists and communities. The designs are unique because they really stay true to the native design but incorporate more urban friendly soles. Viva Mukluks!

Pendleton: The New Hipster -THE PORTLAND COLLECTION
Posted on 9:11 AM by ergeg
Well, I had started an early hibernation of which the new Portland Collection snapped me out of- to many weekend trips into NYC for Fashion week events.... anyway. For those of you who have been fighting over classic 70's pendleton finds all over ebay and such will be happy to learn the new Portland Collection a collaboration between edgy young local designers and Pendleton will bring you to your knees with tears of joy! Made in the USA as well you are buying local! I am after the bag, scarve and the wonderful shawl cape! It has a sort of unisex vibe and the participating designers such as Rachel Turk, Nathaniel Crissman and John Blasioli made sure they were effortless and chic pieces. Small tidbits will be offered nationally at Anthropologie and about 130 smaller boutiques. This fall 2011 is shaping up to be all about going Native American or appreciating indigenous design. I will post some sources of authentic indigenous art and design soon! Something I will always support! Fashion is exploring also vintage more than ever so with a collection that has both Native American and vintge cuts in one you can't go wrong.
In NYC the collection is available Kaight stores:83 Orchard St., NY, NY and 382 Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn, NY. In Atlanta it is available at Bill Hallman near Lenox mall and online. You can also follow the Portland Collection on facebook!
