Ah Dynasty - the lavish 80's designs-the drama. Dynasty's Divas set style trends that rippled throughout the 80's. More was well more. Famous for its clothing and jewelry budgets, it may never be topped. The sequins, the furs, the rhinestones, diamonds and just plain bling. Ah Joan Collins how many furs and diamonds could one woman wear?

Fashion wise what can we take from the Dynasty aesthetic?
Some amazing relevant jewelry was showcased on that hit. So, the first thing we can do is learn to use some sparkle in the evenings. What no diamond budget? Donald Stannard whose work was worn on the soap so why not incorporate his jewelry into your vintage accessories collection and wardrobe. If you can find a piece that is! His designs are well sort of rare and exclusive. If you have never heard of him this is your chance to be introduced.

His pieces are becoming hard to find vintage treasures. Stannard started his own line after working for Kenneth Jay Lane in the 60's. His solo career began in 1972 and he gained steam when he was mentioned in Vogue. After that he became known for his designs being used in Broadway plays, TV shows such as Dynasty and being worn by the rich and famous. The list of celebs that have worn his jewelry is a long one. In 2000 he started exclusively designing on commission for the wealthy or famous and the designs were not available to the public. He passed in 2006 and his designs have become highly sought after.
One iconic theme from his work is the rams head and enamel. Many but not all pieces are signed. You can find references on his runway pieces and unsigned work in a few sources to familiarize yourself. One such book is "Popular Jewelry of the '60's, '70's and '80's" by Roseann Ettinger. He incorporated the ram motif in necklaces, earrings and bracelets. He also used Modernist elements, animals such as the lion, Greek iconography and the head of Hermes....Here are some wonderful examples:
